Who is the Butterfly Cardi for?Updated 2 months ago
The Butterfly Cardi is designed for newborn babies who either prefer to sleep with their hands up near their face or are transitioning from swaddling to arms-out sleeping.
Hands-Up Sleepers
Some newborns find comfort in sleeping with their hands up near their faces. If your baby prefers this position, simply pair the Cocoon Swaddle Bag (arms-out) with the Butterfly Cardi, which has butterfly wing pockets that safely hold your baby’s hands near their face. This setup is safe from birth with our 0-3 month size. If your baby’s sleep style changes frequently, the combination of the Cocoon Swaddle Bag and Butterfly Cardi offers three sleep options: arms-in, arms-out, and hands-up.
Babies Transitioning Out of a Swaddle
When your baby shows signs of rolling, it’s time to transition them to arms-out sleeping for safety. The Butterfly Cardi makes this process easier by serving as a transition aid. Wear it over your baby’s swaddle or sleeping bag to help them adjust to arms-out sleeping with minimal sleep disruptions. The 0.2 TOG rating provides a lightweight layer, making it suitable for various room temperatures.
The unique arm pockets create a gentle sense of containment, helping your baby feel secure while transitioning. By gradually releasing one arm at a time into the pockets, your baby can transition to full arms-out sleep over the course of 10 days. This gradual process allows your baby to adjust to the new sensation while still having access to their hands for self-soothing. If your baby still has a strong startle reflex, you can adjust the press studs for a firmer fit around their torso.
